Administration
Dr. Merrie M. Conaway
I am honored to serve as the principal of Kiser Middle as we start a new chapter after 68 years at the school's original location. I have been a member of this school community for over 25 years, beginning my career as a school counselor at Grimsley High followed by my first principalship at Lindley Elementary several years ago. Additionally, my husband and I have been Kiser parents, as our own three children have attended here. I am invested in this community as a neighbor, parent, colleague, and leader. I look forward to partnering with all members of the Kiser school community in making Kiser the very best middle school in Guilford County. Kiser has a rich tradition and history of academic excellence, which you will find evident in all that we do. Kiser was established in 1957 and has proudly served the community of Greensboro since opening. There is lot of excitement we enter into a new building which will provide many opportunities for our students with state-of-the-art facilities that meet the needs of an ever-expanding world.
We hope you will join us in continuing the tradition of excellence and pride at Kiser Middle School!

How exciting it is to serve as the 6th Grade Assistant Principal at Kiser Middle School!
Rooted in my small-town (Thomasville, NC) upbringing is a strong appreciation for community, and I’m thrilled to contribute to the welcoming culture that makes Kiser so special. In my free time, I enjoy reading, eating, and spending quality time with my sweet toddler girl and husband.
I earned my undergraduate degree in Mathematics with Teacher Licensure from Campbell University, where I was a proud NC Teaching Fellow. I spent nine years teaching math at Northern Guilford High School, where I also earned National Board Certification. During that time, I discovered a deep passion for curriculum and instruction—and met my husband, who is also an educator. I am a member of the GCS Math Teacher Leader Cohort, where I collaborate on developing resources to support math educators across the district. I’m thrilled to bring that same passion and energy to the students and staff at Kiser.
I earned my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from High Point University as part of the 2025 HPULA cohort and had the privilege of completing a full-time administrative internship right here at Kiser. Last year, I loved connecting with students, collaborating with teachers, and partnering with families and volunteers. I’m excited to continue that and more with the Kiser Tigers this year!

7th Grade
Mr. Joshua Hinton
I am thrilled to be part of the Kiser Middle School family as the 7th-grade assistant principal. With over 13 years of experience in education, I've had the privilege of working as a teaching assistant, classroom teacher, and school counselor. I am passionate about building strong relationships with students, as I believe these connections are the foundation for their success.
As a big sports fan, especially of the Chargers, I bring the same enthusiasm to our school community. I earned my undergraduate degree in History from North Carolina A&T State University, followed by two Master’s degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University—one in School Counseling and the other in Educational Leadership.
I am excited about the great things happening at Kiser Middle School and am committed to supporting both students and staff. My goal is to inspire students to lead successful lives, knowing that the beginning of their journey does not determine how it will end.

8th Grade
Dr. Melissa Bocci
I am a native North Carolinian who grew up in Raleigh, and I have spent my career working in K-16 education in Guilford County. I started my career as a Spanish teacher at Page High School before becoming an instructor at Greensboro College and UNCG in their Spanish and Teacher Education programs. At the university level, I taught courses in middle grades education, pedagogy, diverse learners, and cultural foundations and supervised student teachers. I founded and led The Experiential School of Greensboro before returning to Guilford County Schools as Assistant Principal at Swann. I am now excited to serve the Kiser community as the 8th grade Assistant Principal
I received my undergraduate degrees in Spanish and History from Greensboro College and my Masters in Spanish Classroom Practice from UNCG. I earned my PhD in Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations at UNCG with a research focus on culturally-responsive service learning in the public schools. I have a passion for and experiential learning and believe that education is most effective when it is hands-on and grounded in students’ lived experiences.
As the educational philosopher John Dewey said, “Democracy must be born again with each generation, and education is its midwife.” I am committed to being a part of providing a socially just schooling experience for our students that supports their development as critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
